This is like Christmas (new cd) and a New Years Party all at one time. The Coggs describe the difference between the new cd (Mean Dog Howl) and the last one (Blackjack and Cigarettes) as:
“The new cd captures what you hear when you see us “Live ” a little better. To me, everything just sounds a little crisper, without sounding new.”
He is absolutely right, you hear each instrument like you are in the room with them, what a sound.
“There sure is nothing special about the way I record. I do the setup and the recording and I have to play too, so I like to keep it real simple. Just set up the microphones and go. The drums were recorded with 2 overheads and one on the kick and one on the snare, in a kitchen, that’s it. A lot of room sound in there to keep it real sounding. Everything is recorded on a half-inch 8-track reel to reel tape machine (that’s the secret weapon).”
If you’re working for a major record company you should take note, this is how you record a great cd.
If youre going to the concert tonight send me a Email or leave a comment here at the site. Let us know what it was like, what was your favorite song they played, and if you get any pictures you care to share with us?
Songs on the podcast yesterday were:
