I asked Rumaldo would you tell us about your solo blues project.
Rumaldo: Certainly! After all the problems associated with personalities / attitudes etc, of the various musicians I’ve worked with, I thought I’d just get back to my ‘roots’ so to speak and start working on my true love - blues. When I first took up guitar, that was what I was into, but no one else was, so the first band I joined was a cover band and they played whatever was popular at the time, but I always wanted to do my own thing and create my own music. I never wanted to be a cover band musician. I wanted to be one of those musicians that others were covering! In other words I wanted to be a true artist and record my own musical creations.
Q: If there is anything I missed and you want the listeners to know about PLEASE add it. Rumaldo: Just that I may surprise them with some previously unreleased Angel Edge era melodic rock / metal tunes in the future, and of course I hope to have a blues CD out by this summer. I’m concentrating on finishing up the blues project before any thoughts of getting a band together to promote my music live, but that’s definitely in the plans for the future!
Incidentally, my blues instrumental”‘Won’t Ever Be The Same” (track 2 in podcast) won Best Blues at the New Mexico Music Awards in 1996 and “Broken Hearts & Shattered Dreams” (last track in podcast) won Best Song - Rock / Metal in 1990. I take pride in those accomplishments since I’m a self taught guitarist / musician who’s never had a single guitar or music lesson in my life! I couldn’t tell a G from an A from a whole in the ground, but I can manage to write and perform award winning music! Something to be said about that I think! Well I guess I can tell a G or A from a whole in the ground, but that’s about it!

Q; How did the band came together, how long were they together? Rumaldo: The band went through various personnel changes, but the core musicians were myself, the singer -Kenny Romero, and the drummer- Eddie Garcia. The project was my attempt to create a band that would go on to be a top international act, and therefore it was to evolve around my own original musical creations. We would not do cover songs at concerts except to the extent of doing a Led Zeppelin medley for the singer’s sake (he’s a major Zep fan), or to extend a show if more songs over my originals were needed to accomplish that. Aside from that, this was my music that I wanted to eventually become well known for as any aspiring artist would. My partner / producer arranged for Kenny and Eddie to audition for me and to eventually join the band. I wrote all the music, wrote or co-wrote all the lyrics and sang lead vocals on two songs on the CD. I did all the rhythm and lead guitar work (except some acoustic guitar), and the bass guitar, and some keyboards. I also sang background and harmony vocals. The band was together for somewhere around a year or so.Q: Who were the members ?Rumaldo: At last lineup the band consisted of myself on Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals, kenny Romero- Lead Vocals, Renaldo Guillen - Rhythm Guitar / Keyboards / Backing Vocals, Kirk Barrows - Bass Guitar, and Eddie Garcia - Drums Q: Do you sing on both “Will You Be There” and “Realm Of Darkness”?Rumaldo: Yes I sing lead vocals on both those songs.Q: Could you tell us something about the songs “Realm of Darkness”?Rumaldo: The lyrics to Realm Of Darkness were written by my partner / producer. I don’t really know about what the song is actually about. We talked about it at the time, but the message / meaning elude me at the moment. Tomorrow there will be more of the interview with Rumaldo Ortiz and he talk about his new solo work till then check out his website and Angel Edge MySpace page. The Angel Edge Revisited cd is available at Rumaldo Ortiz website. Please also check out this great podcast

I got a chance to ask founding member Rumaldo Ortiz some questions about his band Angel Edge.
Q: Is “Angel Edge Revisited” the only cd the band put out?
Rumaldo: Yes, but it only represents some of the music I wrote during the Angel Edge days, and there are some tunes that were intended for the original Angel Edge self titled cassette release that didn’t get recorded in time for the release. We were at that time sponsored by Coors and they wanted product (cassettes at that time), to be available at the time of our promotional concerts, so we stopped the studio sessions at 9 songs. The intent was 10 to 12 songs for a CD. One of the nine we elected to leave out at the last minute because the vocals weren’t quite how I wanted them.
Q: Revisited sounds like another cd may have come first.
Rumaldo: The reason for the ‘Revisited’ addition to the title was that I had the original 8 songs re-mastered for CD and changed a couple of very minor things on the music and CD cover, so I decided to title it Angel Edge Revisited and do a re-release. ( original Angel Edge came out in 1989 )
Q: Would you give us some background of Angel Edge?
Rumaldo: The name Angel Edge was / (is) the name of a girl from Texas that I never met, but heard about through a high school friend - that was also a musician, and I was trying to come up with a name for a band while also working on the music that at the time, my partner / producer and I were preparing to present to Coors to try to win their sponsorship. I thought the name sounded pretty cool, and my friend asked her if she’d mind my using it and she didn’t object, so that was the name of the band from that point on.
Tomorrow there will be more of the interview with Rumaldo Ortiz. till then check out his website and Angel Edge MySpace page.

I said to Jimmi since this is the time of year when everybody is out getting presents, would you explain to everyone the present Jesus Christ gave us and what a person has to do to go to heaven?
Jimmi: Christmas is about the birth of Christ – God becoming man, taking on our cause and redeeming us from our sin. Jesus cam as a gift from God to take on the punishment that was ours.
What do you need to do to go to heaven:
You have to believe on what Jesus did.
Jesus came to this earth and became a man, born of a virgin, he lived a sinless perfect life then he went to the cross, he died on that cross for a crime he did not commit, that was sin, your sin and my sin. Three days he rose from the dead.
So to go to heaven what you need to do is
Receive the gift God has given to you in the person of Jesus Christ ask him to forgive you of your sins and then go fellow him.
