The Muggs SHOW AT THE BLIND PIG IN ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

If you love Love Sculpture, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Savoy Brown or any of the above menchened bands you have a new must have band, The Muggs.

I asked Tony if he could tell us anything about their song “White Boy Blues”?

Tony said: “SIT AROUND ALL YOU CHILDREN AND I’LL TELL YOU A TALE!
THE YEAR WAS 1999, DANNY AND I ( TONYMUGGS) WERE IN DOWNTOWN DETROIT AT A BLUES BAR IN GREEKTOWN CALLED ‘THE MUSIC MENU’. BILL HEID, A FAMOUS BLUES, JAZZ PIANIST WAS GIGGING THAT NIGHT. AT SOME POINTBETWEEN SONGS, HE MADE THIS REMARK, “HERE’S A SLOW BLUES THAT THOSE LONG HAIRS RUINED BACK IN THE DAY.” SO DANNY AND I CO-WROTE THE LYRICS AS A REBUTTAL TO SUCH ACCUSATIONS BEING THAT WE’RE WHITE BOYS AND WE HAD LONG HAIR.”

What can your Muggs & Muggettes do to help The Muggs become more popular ?

Tony: “FIRSTLY, PLEASE GO ON LINE AND PURCHASE OUR LP, A TSHIRT AND LIVE DVD/DOCUMENTARY IF YOU ARE ABLE.(THEY MAKE PERFECT CHRISTMAS STOCKING STUFFERS!) REALLY, WE OWN OUR 1ST LP WHICH MEANS THAT 100% GO DIRECTLY INTO OUR POCKETS. IF ENOUGH FANS BUY OUR LP AND MERCH, THEN WE WILL HAVE MONIES FOR A VAN, INSURANCE, GAS, HOTELS…..SO WE CAN COME TO YER TOWN AND TOUR REGULARLY. SECONDLY, WORD OF MOUTH. I’M GUESSING EVERYONE THAT IS GONNA READ THIS IS SHIT COOL AND IS ALREADY LISTENING TO MUSIC THAT MATTERS AND NOT LISTENING TO THE 85% BAD MUSIC ON THE RADIO. PLEASE, JUST TELL YER FRIENDS THAT THERE IS AN UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT OF MUSIC THAT IS RELEVENT. WE MAKE THIS MUSIC BECAUSE WE HAVE TO. IT’S URGUNT. IT MATTERS.”

Please tell your friends call the radio stations and buy there CD. Lets make the Muggs As big as they should be.

Muggs - Live SHOW AT THE BLIND PIG IN ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

If you’ve not heard The Muggs before your in for a real treat. Their a three peace blues rock band from Detroit Michigan. I asked Tony Denardo (keyboad/bass) if The Muggs will be doing a US tour?Tony: “WE CHOSE TO BE ON T.V. YOU SEE, THE MUGGS CANNOT TOUR UNLESS WE ARE ACTUALLY MAKING DECENT MONEY ON THE ROAD. MOST DETROIT BANDS GO ON 6 WEEK TOURS, COME BACK EVEN AND THAT’S A VICTORY BECAUSE THEY PLANTED SOME SEEDS SO TO SPEAK. IF THE MUGGS WERE TO BREAK EVEN…..WE’D BE BROKE AND HOMELESS…..!”How did the tour of Spain come about ?

Tony: “WE HAD GREAT DISTRO OVERSEAS FOR A HIT MINUTE BEFORE OUR THEN LABEL, TIMES BEACH RECORDS, HAD FINANCIAL WHOA’S. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, SPAIN TOOK A LIKING TO OUR 1ST AND ONLY LP THUS FAR, “THE MUGGS”, AND THAT GAVE WAY TO A SPANISH LABEL SLASH TOURING COMPANY NAMED, “LOVE TO ART” TO WORK OUT A DEAL.
WE WERE SUPPOSED TO TOUR IN OCT. 2006, BUT THE PAYBACKS HAD A ‘LITTLE STEVEN’S UNDERGROUND GARAGE’ OPPORTUNITY AND WITH DANNYMUGGS BEING THE LEAD GUITARIST IN THE PAYBACKS, AND BECAUSE WE’RE ALL FAMILY IN DETROIT, THE MUGGS RESPECTFULLY DECLINED SPAIN. SO……..IN JANUARY 2007, THE PAYBACKS, WHO WERE ALSO VERY SUCCESSFUL IN SPAIN, WERE ASKED, FOR THE THIRD TIME TO TOUR(1ST TIME THEY WERE THE DETROIT COBRAS OPENER, 2ND TIME THEY HEADLINED WITH THE HENTCHMEN AS OPENERS) AND THE 3RD TIME THE MUGGS WERE ASKED TO BE OPENERS AND SO RETURNING THE FAVOR BACK.”

Lance Lopez – “Every Time I Turn Around” is proof that everything you
want in a blues/rock guitarist is in Lance Lopez. What a great blues
song.

Cherry Suede’s “Not a Day Goes By” is just a fun rock song – enjoy.

Raunchtones - More Than Fun

I said to El Rauncho, I find independent bands like yours always make me mad. Every song on the CD is great, yet you probably get very little radio play. I look at Billboard and bands on there are boring and uninspiring. How do you deal with knowing you are putting out a far superior product yet they get all the recognition.

“I guess it’s a subjective deal. It’s been my experience that there’s good and bad music on both sides of that fence. To tell you the truth there’s probably more outlets for music of all kinds now than ever before. Twenty five years ago you and I wouldn’t even be having this conversation! “

The band sound very tight on the CD, had the Raunchtones been playing these songs together for a long time?

“We played some blues cover gigs together, no originals . We recorded the disc in my garage. Live. We had 5 rehearsals. The recordings were done on a Sat. and Sun. in August. We were good friends at the time; it was a lot of fun.”

“Live music is better… bumper stickers should be issued!” ER

The Raunchtones are on Silk City Records.
