The Recorder Industry Turn Their Backs To Them.
High powered lead guitar creative rhythm section and strong female vocals.
I asked Rebecca Haviland (vocals) from Laws of Gravity, how can a band
with such a great sound and top notch recordings not have a recording
contract?
Rebecca: “Unfortunately New York’s live scene is in shambles right
now, and not really helping new bands to gain fans. Their really isn’t
much showcasing in NYC for new talent in the hard rock scene, nor is
their really a big market for hard rock or metal in New York. We have
more fans in Europe than we do in New York, and we haven’t even played
over there. We’ve been shopping for labels, but thanks to the current
state of the music industry, labels are very reluctant to sign new
bands, and our music hasn’t been able to fall into the right hands
yet.”

Why does the record Industry feel we need another Led Zeppelin
greatest hits (Motherload)? What we need is new creative talents to
carry on the legacy of that music. Laws Of Gravity is one of the bands
that could do that. Their high power updated sound with a Female
vocalist (Rebecca Haviland). Talented and creative song writing makes
them a natural band for the record companies to sign. Sadly they have
not opened their eyes to see the new world we’re in. We want new and
talented bands to continue to blaze a new trail as Jimmy Page did in
his day. Instead they prefer to regeritate the same old music we
already have in a new package. If you are a record producer don’t be
like the man who turned down that new sound of an unknown band called
The Beatles because it was not quite Elvis. Be like Brian Epstein and
find them a record deal. Laws of Gravity deserve a GOOD recording
contract.

Band Members are:

This is the conciliation of the interview with Mike Clark.
Q: How did you get inspired to get into music?
Mike: In school, a great band teacher. It was something I was good at and
truly loved.
Q: Could you tell us something about the songs “Huggy Drunk”?
Mike: Steve Pineo, a local songwriting master wrote that one about me. The
song speaks for itself I think. ;-) Steve sings the tune on my CD.

Q: Could you tell us something about the songs “Tribute to Big”?
Mike: This a tribute to Big Millar. Who was a man Steve and I played with the
early 1990′s. He was one of the last real Kansas City blues shouters he
had played with Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Jay McShann. He moved to
Edmonton Alberta where he became somewhat of a local and national
legend. There is a statue of Big in a park in Edmonton Alberta paying
tribute to him.

Q: Do you teach music also?
Mike: I did for many years, I am not currently however.

Q: If I missed asking about something, please feel to tell the listeners
what you want them to know.
My tunes are available on my website for donation.

I had a chance to talk with Mike Clark recently.
Q: Do you also do the singing? I’d think that be hard and play
saxophonist and sing.
Mike: Yes I sing the tunes. The saxes are over dubbed with me playing all of
them. When a gig pays enough I hire horn players to cover the parts.
Otherwise I usually go with a 4 or 5 piece band.
Q: How did you get to play with Albert Collins and Son Seals? Could you
tell us something about working with them? (A few weeks ago I did a show
on
The Raunchtones. The leader of the band said he started playing the
blues after seeing a Son Seals concert.)
Mike: I just got the call to play the gigs when these guys were in town.
Albert was such a gentleman. We chatted after one of the show for about
an hour. Just him and I. I will never forget that. He died about 6
months after the shows I did with him. Son Seal was in Alberta doing a
couple of shows where I was the horn player. He didn’t say much as we
drove from gig to gig in the other horn players 1965 Plymouth Valiant.
We spent about 12 hours in that old car. Son had just come back from
Turkey where he was used to getting driven in Limos now here he was in
Alberta Canada in the back of an old Valiant. At the shows he ripped it
up. His wife asked if I ‘d wanted to join the band but he got sick
shortly after and sadly passed away.

Q: How is Mikey’s Juke Joint & Eatery doing?
I was looking at the menus and man it really sounds good.
Mike: We are a new place and it’ going great! I wanted a place where musicians
and their music could be really listened to. The food is awesome!
