The conclusion of the interview with AMMP’s vocalist and keyboards
Andrew Masseurs

Question: Would you tell us something about each of the songs we’re
going to hear.

All I Wanted
Andrew: A song about new love. It’s really about that first crush or
first kiss when your on cloud nine and feel invincible. An inspiring
love song. Ammp’s first single.

2. Number 1 in pop/rock at Broadjam.
3. Track of the week and Track of the day at Garageband.

Nights Unbroken (Demo)
Andrew: Another love song that was first written in 1997 and rehashed
in 2002 before this demo in 2007. It’s really Ammp being a bit
experimental where we tend to journey from one part to the next. This
track was us feeling our way through the song right up to the end
where we cut the end vocals and ended up going with Mat’s impromptu
guitar lead that set a real nice mood and was totally unexpected.

Always
Andrew: A song that was written in 2002 after a long process of
recording and writing and the feeling of frustration as we looked to
find a way forward. Its one that can be related to so many things in
life whether it be your day job, your love life or your passion. It’s
a song about hope. Not everything works out the way you want but as
the end of the song says. You must hold the rising sun and the hope of
a new day. Ammp’s fourth single yet to be released.

Go
Andrew: Began from one of Matt’s riffs that he has lying around. The
theme of the song is almost the opposite to All I Wanted. It explores
relationships – where it’s best not to be together. The video of Go
takes this idea and has Renee from our first video (All I wanted)
reprise her role as the love interest. But on this occasion she has
treated her man with so much disdain that he takes control of his life
and moves on to a brighter future. Ammp’s third single yet to formally
be released.
· Number 1 Pop/Rock Broadjam
· Track of the day Pop/Rock and Pop Garageband and heaps of other awards.
· Number 13 @ Songplanet.
· Currently number 2 @ New Zealand Station Zone Fm top 30.

Ironman
Andrew: Written at the same time as Always this was a song where I
wanted to write about going for it with no excuses. The chorus
explains “I’m a stone faced Ironman”. It was written to inspire us and
others to keep going. The second verse was for my father who died from
an incurable disease but was tough to the end.
· Track of the week and day Pop/Rock Track of the day Rock Garageband.
· The official song of the International Ironman event in Taupo New
Zealand in 2007.
· Number 32 New Zealand Radioscope top 40.
