131 – Nick Moss – Privileged

Blues Revue Magazine called Play It’ Til Tomorrow by Nick Moss and the Flip Tops the 16 gratis record that defined the past decade. To hear the show Nick and I did about that record click here.

Three of Nick’s past records have been nominated for the Blues Music Awards and now you’re going to hear songs from Nick’s brand new cd Privileged.

Nick told me he is doing what many rock artists have done over the years but in reverse.  A lot of rock artists have put out a blues record to pay homage to the blues artist that turned them on to music.  Nick is putting out a blues rock record to let people know what got him interested in music.  While there are some covers like Cream’s “Politician” and Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” (very good version) most of the songs are Nick Moss originals.

I was a little skeptical recently at one of Nick’s shows when he explained to me about the new record being blues-rock.  After hearing the record I found he was right, it’s really good with more than enough blues to keep anyone happy.

You may also want to check out the new Blues Revue Magazine (April/May 2010) with Nick Moss on the cover and an interesting article about Nick and this record Privileged.

Songs heard on this weeks show:
Privileged at Birth
Why Should I Care
Georgia Redsnake
Born Leader

This week’s show will run longer because Nick was kind enough to give us an overview of three other bands on his label Blue Bella Records that came out with new records this week.  Nick tells you about the band then I’ll play you one of their new songs.
The bands are The Cash Box Kings (to hear a show on their older record click here), Matthew Stubbs and Killborn Alley Blues Band (who will be on the show in the future).
